Cultivating Your Inner Fire (and Letting It Burn Steady)
Last night’s class marked the close of our spring Community Yoga series, the theme of agni and cultivating your inner fire—and what a beautiful close it was.
I say it often: the yoga mat is a space to move, breathe, stretch, and strengthen—but more importantly, it’s a space to remember. A space to come back to yourSelf, to your breath, and to this ever-changing inner landscape of body, energy, and mood.
This week’s practice was playful and deeply grounding. We brought out the small coregeous balls and used them to spark the agni—your inner fire. Not just digestive fire, but the mental and emotional clarity that rises when you challenge yourself just enough, without pushing too far.
Tending Your Fire
We started by lying back with the ball supporting the spine, and almost immediately, we were in conversation with our breath. It’s incredible how quickly your breath reveals your energy—and your emotional state.
And that’s the thing… agni isn’t just about food or what you’re digesting physically. It’s how you metabolize your thoughts, your habits, your patterns. It’s how you move through life.
We’re not just cleansing the body—we’re learning to shift how we react when things don’t go our way. (Like me, teaching last Saturday while feeling crabby thanks to a takeout meal the previous evening I didn’t even enjoy… real talk.)
We used the small ball in side-lying poses to mimic the core engagement of balancing postures. Then we took that energy and stood it up into variations of Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana (Revolved Half Moon). The goal wasn’t perfection—it was presence. Feeling when we wobble, and returning to center.
Your Body is the Vehicle
I shared a metaphor during class—about how we care for our cars: checking the tires, topping up fluids, cleaning out the cupholders. Your body is no different. The breath is your fuel. Agni is your engine. And without maintenance, you’re not going anywhere far.
So we slow down. We pause. We practice. And we feel.
Even in rest, there is fire. Even in stillness, there is clarity.
What’s Ahead
I know online practice isn’t for everyone, but if you’re craving some steadiness this summer, I’ll be continuing with Saturday morning classes, and launching a new Thursday 6AM meditation + breathwork practice—no asana, just 30 minutes to land, breathe, and remember yourSelf.
All of these classes will live in my Digital Library, which I’ve been building over the last 18 months. It’s a work of heart, and this summer, that’s my focus—to organize, simplify, and make it easy for you to practice anytime, anywhere.
And if you’re already a member, thank you. You’re helping keep this space alive and real.
If you’re not on my newsletter list yet and want to be kept in the loop, send me an email or drop me a message. I’ll be offering a couple of pop-up classes this summer, weather depending and will communicate those dates and times through my newsletter and social channels.
One Last Thing…
Whether we see each other again this summer, or when I return to in-person classes in September—remember this:
💛 Pause and breathe.
💛 Turn your face to the sky and breathe it in.
💛 Let your toes feel the grass.
💛 Let your body feel its truth.
💛 And don’t forget to enjoy the ride.
Namaste,
Michelle
