At the Heart of Surrender
Embracing Trust & Letting Go
Somehow, we’ve arrived at March of 2025! Time moves fast, and with it, so do the cycles of our practices. Over the last two months, we’ve explored dinacharya (daily routine) and regulation—how consistency in our wake/sleep cycles, meals, and movement helps ground and nourish us. We’ve also worked through Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), using the pose to support hormonal regulation and stability, while exploring inversions and an opportunity at a fresh perspective.
February was a month of tending to our fires, called agni in Sanskrit. Through twisting practices, we worked to stoke the digestive and energetic fire within, releasing stagnation and bringing awareness to how we process not only food but also emotions and experiences. Just as fire refines and transforms, our February practices were an invitation to burn away what no longer serves us and to step forward with clarity and strength.
Now, as the season begins to change (YAY for Spring!), so too does our focus. This month, I invite you to step into heart-opening and Ishvara Pranidhana (surrender) — learning to soften, trust, and release. Heart-opening isn’t just about deep backbends; it’s about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, to expand beyond fear, and to welcome the unknown with grace.
Ishvara Pranidhana – The Practice of Surrender
Ishvara Pranidhana is one of yoga’s guiding principles. It invites us to surrender not in defeat, but in trusting something greater than ourselves. When we stop resisting and start flowing with life, we find a sense of ease, spaciousness, and connection. The heart center is where we hold onto old wounds, fears, and tightness. Through breath, movement, and awareness, we can soften those spaces and invite in more light.
Bringing This Into Your Practice
Turning to the yoga mat, there are so many ways that we can safely and respectfully explore the practice of surrendering. Through asana, breath, mantra and even intention setting, these are all opportunities to invite the heart to open and release.
- Moving with awareness is an invitation to notice if and where resistance exists and instead of forcing a shape, or pose, to happen, can you cultivate ease?
- In each exhaling breath, what is one unnecessary thing you can release?
- On and off the mat, surrounding is not passive – it’s an act of courage and deep inner faith.
By embracing heart-opening and surrender, we create room for more love, more ease, and more trust in the unfolding of our lives. Let’s step into March with open hearts and open minds, ready for whatever comes next.
See you on the mat soon,
